Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #279

Messy Messy Fail - Talk about fails - I just found a box of those roll out sugar cookies from Easter in the back of my fridge - whoops!

Tidy Victory - My husband introduced me to a weed killer that I can spray on all of the Snow On the Mountain in the garden that has been happily growing back since I pulled it out 2 weeks ago - take that, ground cover!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #278

Messy Messy Fail - So we went to see the Tall Ships in Buffalo over the weekend with the intent to go on Saturday - FAIL!  It rained pretty yard the previous evening and then on and off all day. We were super disappointed, although we DID end up going to the Explore and More Children's Museum in downtown Buffalo.  That DID end up being very cool!

Tidy Victory - We had no plans for Sunday (we intended to drive back on Saturday night after visiting the ships but obviously that didn't happen) so we just ended up staying on Sunday and had a FABULOUS time on Sunday visiting the tall ships!  Check out my Instagram account for a link with more information about them.

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #277

Messy Messy Fail - There are 5 main gardens here at Starry Acres (one of these is for veggies) - I've only got one of them in working condition.  Never underestimate the time it takes to weed and maintain - holy cow!

Tidy Victory - As mentioned above, the one garden is trimmed, somewhat weeded (now I have to go through it with the weed killer to eliminate what keeps growing back) it's taken several days but it looks so pretty with all of the color that's blooming!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #276

Messy Messy Fail - I simply cannot get my lettuce seeds to sprout!  I initially started them inside in April but nothing every appeared.  I tried again but still nothing.  To Walmart I go because there is NOTHING like having fresh lettuce to pick for salads and sandwiches!

Tidy Victory - The rest of the veggie garden is doing well this year: radishes, peas, tomatoes, an onion (lol), peppers, zucchini and carrots.  I learned a lot last year from my accidental cross pollination - green pumpkins that never turned orange and odd shaped zucchini. :)

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #275

Messy Messy Fail - Although I have been getting rid of clothes for the last few months, I keep throwing different items into different piles in the bedroom.  I know the piles drive my husband crazy but how else can I sort what needs to be put away for the summer, what's getting donated, etc.?  I'm not making a trip to donate until it's a hefty load - just keep sorting piles I guess!

Tidy Victory - The breakfast nook garden is fully weeded and ready for some weed killer/filler plants.  The plan is to A) keep watch for the Snow On the Mountain to grow back and 2) hit it up hard with weed killer and make it go away D) plant some pretty flowers that will fill in space so the Snow On the Mountain doesn't come back.  Let's see how it goes!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #274

Messy Messy Fail - I was out gardening a few evenings and the BUGS are out of control.  I am covered in bites - seriously - from my scalp to my armpit to behind my knees.  So darn itchy!

Tidy Victory - I am 100% getting into gear for this summer with several household projects including - decorating our living wall with a picture gallery, getting rid of more old clothes and items no longer needed, cleaning up the gardens, harvesting veggies and getting our spare bedroom/playroom in working order.  One other outdoor decorating project - I'm on the hunt for a CHEAP old wooden table and mismatched chairs to make an outdoor dining area on the lawn underneath our chestnut tree.  We do have a deck but there is something so magical about dining under lush tree limbs full of leaves!  If you see a set available local peeps - give a holler!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #273

Messy Messy Fail - The weeds are taking over the gardens again and it's time to get to work - I plan to pull as much of them out as I can and spray them with weed killer.  But they are seriously everywhere.  Every nook and cranny.  Every one.

Tidy Victory - I keep finding more and more clothes to donate and GOSH does it feel good!  I found a pair of jean shorts that I literally wore 18+ years ago, and I literally could BARELY fit my ankle into them.  Why did I keep them for so long????  Goodbye tiny shorts!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #272

Messy Messy Fail - I am trying to figure out why the lilacs didn't bloom nearly as much as last year.  I THOUGHT you were not supposed to do anything to the bushes after they bloomed, so I did nothing.  I asked a garden expert and they said DEAD HEAD, GIRL.  I'll be snipping those babies off this year and hope that helps next year's blooms!

Tidy Victory - We scored some really beautiful fuchsia hanging baskets - I had to go to two greenhouses to find full ones with good blooms, but we (the boys and I) prevailed and SCORED!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #271

Messy Messy Fail - I still can't get over the petrified paw I found.  The chair - and possibly final resting place of the body the paw belonged to - still sits in the living room.  I just don't know what to do, clean it out or throw it out.  Not sure what I'm talking about?  Go back to this post and see!

Tidy Victory - Beautiful weather is rolling in and it feels SO GOOD TO BE OUTSIDE!  Continuing to slowly clean up the beds, get the vegetables in place and deciding which hanging baskets to buy!  Last year, I put up red million bells and they didn't do so hot, too shady on the front porch.  Perhaps fuchsia baskets this year!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #270

Messy Messy Fail - So this was the ultimate SUPREME messy fail ever - Long story short, I was cleaning the crevices out of an old wingback chair that we have that typically has a cover on it (that was in the wash) when I pulled out a few toys.  I dug in a little deeper in hopes of finding more toys when I pulled out a PETRIFIED PAW.  As in an animal paw, like a squirrel or something.  My shock and horror was pretty intense.  I even documented it on my Instagram Stories (click on the Messy Fails category at the top).  We have no idea how long that's been in there,  from the state of the paw it looks as though it was a pretty long time.  My husband is going to decide if he wants to dig for more or just TOSS IT!

Tidy Victory - I just finished weeding out 2 of our 4 raised beds to get them ready for our seeds that we started in doors.  We planted radishes, onions, carrots, peas, beans, zucchini and lettuce.  Most of them have already started to sprout and the boys are super excited!  I've never started seeds indoors before so I was happy to see it worked!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #269

Messy Messy Fail - I KNEW I should have double checked what time church started in the morning before I went this morning.  Last time I went, (which definitely wasn't last February *cough cough*) it was 8:30, and I guess they changed it to 8:15.  Better late than never.

Tidy Victory - If you didn't see in my Instagram stories already, I snagged the most EPIC purchase from TJMaxx EVER - go check it out if you want to have your #mindblown!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #268

Messy Messy Fail - NEVER tell your kid that the water slide you are about to take them down IS NOT the slide they already went down and were petrified of.  We did the walk of shame - see below for clarification.

Tidy Victory - What a long winter it has been - we had our spring break last week and it was MUCH NEEDED.  We ended up going to Great Wolf Lodge in Ontario, Canada for a night and had a FANTASTIC time (with the exception of the above incident).  It is a hotel/indoor waterpark with food, a spa, story time, a bowling alley and an INCREDIBLE water slide selection.  We always have a very easy time crossing the boarder with the kids into Canada - it's barely a 2 hour drive for us!
