Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #205

Messy Messy Fail - Let's talk about this city girl moving to the country.  The city girl did not know what a well was (like a wish well with a bucket?!?!?!?!?!), and that when there is no electricity in the country with a well, the well pump does not work.  When the well pump does not work, there is no water, no toilet flushing.  No toilet flushing with three males in the house = no bueno.  Now the city girl knows what to do when the power goes out - WISH IN THE WELL FOR THE ELECTRICITY TO COME BACK PRONTO.

Tidy Victory - This city girl also discovered a composting bin next to the barn and vegetable garden.  I have always had a thing for not wanting to throw so much garbage away, feeling wasteful, etc.  I am so excited to be throwing all of our food scraps, coffee grinds and even fireplace ashes away in it to reuse in the summer for our garden!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #204

Messy Messy Fail - Along with a new country house comes a long crushed stone county driveway UPHILL.  When that long crushed stone uphill driveway freezes, it's pointless to try getting up it.  Even with a running start.

Tidy Victory - Salt.  Lots and lots of bags of salt.

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #203

Messy Messy Fail - It seriously took almost three weeks to get the internet set up at our new house here at Starry Acres (named it myself!).  Hence the lack of HIH party posts over the last month.

Tidy Victory - Fear not - we are back on the grid, looking to invest in a generator (we'll save that story for another post) and ready to roll people!  Now let's party!

Snowflake Counting Cards

Messy Messy Fail - We moved!!!!!  But I lost the coffee in the move.  That's what happens to the last items in the house being packed - they go into the nearest box regardless of the label on it and are lost until every box is opened.

Tidy Victory - I found the coffee within three days of moving.  Don't be impressed that we went through every box in 3 days.  I'm just super stoked I found the coffee.

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #202

Messy Messy Fail - My house.  Right now.  Being packed up.  Messy messy MESS!!!!

Tidy Victory - Although packing truly is the pits, I think we are doing a good job of it.  We didn't wait too long - packed up lots of items we didn't need for every day living - and for the last two weeks we've been boxing up the remainder.  My favorite packing tip?  Use your dish/bathroom towels to wrap around breakables and save on packing materials!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #201

Messy Messy Fail - So funny story - I am the official Cheerimeister for my family's Christmas - I text everyone their Kris Kringle along with the wish list, make sure everyone knows what time brunch is at, etc.  How ironic is it that the Cheermeister nearly forgot to get the gift for her own KK.

Tidy Victory - One holiday concert down, one to go.  My middle school orchestra had a great performance last Tuesday - high school's turn on Thursday night!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #200

Messy Messy Fail - I missed not one but TWO appointments last week, as in thought they were on completely different days!  I HATE when I do that!  The receptionists were too kind.

Tidy Victory - I sat down for a 1/2 hour today, went through the DVR guide and recorded ALL of the awesome holiday programs & movies that are going to be on.  I especially like to watching Santa Clause: The Movie, who remembers that one?!?!?!?!?!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #199

Messy Messy Fail - I thought I was being so thrifty and crafty, making my own fresh wreath from a ring that I saved from last year. It turned brown and dried out in a day - was the heck MAN?!?!?!?!

Tidy Victory - Our Nightmare Before Christmas tree is up and decorated (for the most part) - didn't QUITE turn out as I had envisioned but it was still fun!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #198

Messy Messy Fail - In past years, I have always saved the turkey carcass to make broth.  How many times do you think I've ever actually gotten around to doing that?  0.

Tidy Victory - So instead of saying I'll do it later, I did it right away - I made turkey broth from the neck and gizzards instead!  I then froze the broth in ice cube trays to store in freezer bags - perfect for measuring and storing!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #197

Messy Messy Fail - As my husband so delicately pointed out, all of my potted plants are still outside waiting to be dumped.  I figure, they're dead already - they can wait.

Tidy Victory - It is time for my littlest - the Angel Baby - to have his own elf on the shelf because he's not so angelic anymore.  Made my purchase early this morning at Walmart, now I just have to get him inside and set up to greet us when we come back from Thanksgiving!

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #196

Messy Messy Fail - Well not only am I posting this party SEVERAL days late BUT I also left all of my potted plants that should have been brought inside OUTSIDE and there was a frost.  They are somewhat dead, but I cut them back and we'll see what happens.

Tidy Victory - I made a delicious pre-Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday night (hence why I did not post this party on time *wink wink*) - it was a little dry but I am SO GLAD to get that meat out of the freezer.

Happiness Is Homemade Link Party #195

Messy Messy Fail - I went out of town again for the weekend (surprise surprise I know) and left my plants out on the back deck.  Everyone kept saying how warm out it was going to be, 60 degrees or so.  However not at night.  My plants weren't killed but close to it, so back to my classroom they go!

Tidy Victory - I can't explain it, but I'm ready to GET RID OF STUFF!  Going to start this weekend with CLOTHES - both mine and the kids.  Time to scale back!
